Your Pet's Wellness Care
Regular dog/cat wellness examinations keep your pet healthy. Beach Veterinary Clinic recommends that all pets undergo complete wellness examinations at least once a year, though more frequent exams are encouraged.
Regular veterinary exams help us identify signs of disease and allow us to treat your pet promptly. Most importantly, a complete "nose-to-tail" examination allows us to develop a comprehensive health profile for your pet. This information aids us in future treatment of your pet and helps us identify medical problems at an early stage, before they develop into serious conditions that are difficult and expensive to treat.
Exams are also a great time to share information about your pet's health. We may ask you questions about your pet's diet and lifestyle and we encourage you to ask any questions you may have about your pet's health. During an exam, we discuss vaccinations, nutrition, behavior and other topics that are important for maintaining the health and well-being of your pet.
Pet Vaccinations in Cortez
Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, many diseases that were once fatal to pets can now be prevented through the use of vaccinations. Your pets' vaccinations are based on the American Animal Hospital Association vaccination recommendations and each pet's own unique needs. We recommend three-year vaccination protocols for adult cats and dogs. We vaccinate all cats with Purevax vaccinations, as there is much less risk of a vaccine-associated sarcoma.
Pet Identification - Dog/Cat Microchipping
A sturdy collar and identification tag are a great way to identify your pet and keep him or her safe, but sometimes, these items are not enough. Microchipping your pet is a safe, easy way to identify your pet and help ensure he or she returns home safely. About the size and shape of a grain of rice, a microchip is implanted under your pet's skin in a procedure similar to a vaccination. Information about your pet is encoded into the microchip and veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the country are equipped with scanners capable of detecting and reading microchips. If your pet is lost in the Bradenton/Cortez area, his/her veterinary microchip is scanned and the information is used to reunite you and your pet.
Beach Veterinary Clinic, your Cortez veterinarians, uses the AVID microchip system. Please ask a staff member for more information about microchipping your pet.
